Suggested Reading

  • HypnoBirthing, A Celebration of Life, by Marie F. Mongan. This book is provided with your classes. It is an all-encompassing guide to HypnoBirthing childbirth education, and explains how to combine class and self study to maximize the effectiveness of the HypnoBirthing childbirth method.
  • Mother's Intention, How Belief Shapes Birth, by Kim Wildner. Kim is a HBCBE herself and this book explores how our deep seated beliefs, as women, are affecting the way we experience pregnancy and birth. In everything else in life, "seeing is believing". In birth, it's exactly the opposite. This book is available for purchase at class for the wholesale price of $11.
  • The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth, by Henci Goer. The TWG is a wonderful book that gives a very clear format presenting the pros and cons of most interventions that parents will face as part of the pregnancy and birth process. It carefully points out both sides of each issue, as to let moms and dads decide their own opinions.
  • The Birth Book, by William and Martha Sears
Very reassuring to moms to follow their bodies and trust in the birth proces. Suggests that fear causes pain and tension during birth, which is parallel to the HypnoBirthing philosophy.
  • The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, by LaLecheLeague International. A totally comprehensive guide to breastfeeding. If you don't take a breastfeeding class, buy this book!

I'm sure we wil be adding to this list, but here's a good place to start. Currently, all of these books are available from our lending library. Just ask at class and take it home, if it's not already lent out. If you have birth books you'd like to donate, that is always welcomed!
